Jiumozhi
In Chinese: 鸠摩智.
Literally, 'to collect and analyse knowledge'; a monk from the Temple of the Great Wheel on the Great Snow Mountain. Visited the Temple of the Celestial Dragon in Dali to obtain the scrolls that contained the Phenomenal Swords of the Six Channels; ostensibly for a burnt offering in fulfilment of the last wishes of his friend, the late Murong Bo (Chapter 10).
The current 'Lord of the Laws of Buddhism Who Protects the Country' (Hu4 Guo2 Fa3 Wang2 护国法王) in Tufan. Known to be a very intelligent man with a thorough knowledge of Buddhism; gave lectures that were attended by eminent monks and virtuous individuals from various places in the Western Regions (Xi1 Yu4 西域) and India once every five years. Also a highly-skilled pugilist according to his letter to Benyin because of his ability to discuss martial arts with Murong Bo and become the latter's close friend (Chapter 10).
Below 50 years old; had a countenance that exuded pride and a natural pearl-like glow. Admired by Duan Yu after a few mere glances. Had apparently met Murong Bo years ago and received a manual for some high-level martial arts techniques from him. Could not forget Murong's friendship even after 40 days of solitary meditation behind closed doors (bi4 guan1 闭关). Had apparently promised Murong to obtain the scrolls of the Phenomenal Swords of the Six Channels on the former's behalf; offered three books (ostensibly hand-written by Murong Bo) that contained the keys to the 72 Consummate Pugilistic Techniques of Shaolin (Shao4 Lin2 Qi1 Shi2 Er4 Jue2 Ji4 少林七十二绝技), the methods through which they should be learnt, as well as the ways of responding to them in battle (Chapter 10).
Second to the leader (e.g. king) in terms of power and influence in Tufan; trusted by the leader, hence he could decide whether Tufan would go to war or remain in peace with another country. Considered 'unscrupulous and despicable' by Benyin et al when he (Jiumozhi) grabbed Benchen (a.k.a. the Emperor Baoding) as a hostage after failing to obtain the scrolls for the Phenomenal Swords of the Six Channels; turned slightly red when Benchen compared his actions with those of Ding Chunqiu (Chapter 10). Considered by Duan Yu to be 'worse in character' because of his facade of 'holy monkhood', compared to the open and obvious wickedness of Four Great Evils; also had his scheme of obtaining the Phenomenal Swords for his own use pointed out by Duan (Chapter 11).
Told 'Sun the Third' that he met Murong Bo at the borders of Sichuan 川边. Offered the opportunity to read the martial arts manuals at the Double-Storeyed Water Pavilion of Bestowal by Murong if he (Jiumozhi) obtained the scrolls of the Phenomenal Swords of the Six Channels for him (Chapter 11).
Spent 9 years behind closed doors learning the Sabre of the Glowing Flame; thought that he would not have escaped safely from the Temple of the Celestial Dragon if not for his mastery of this skill. Did not know how to row a boat, but learnt to do so quickly (Chapter 11).
