Single Finger of Positivity, The
a.k.a. Yi1 Yang2 Zhi3 一阳指.
First described by Duan Yu (without naming it although he had heard his parents refer to it by name in conversation) and identified by Zhong Ling as the best acupoint-sealing technique under the sun. In the 2nd edition, no indication was given as to whether Duan Yu knew the name of the technique at this point (Chapter 1).
Noted on the bookshelves of the Library of the Lord of Heaven in the Boundless Cavern as "lacking" from its collection of martial arts from the Duan Family of Dali (Chapter 2).
Renowned throughout the world (Chapter 6). A finger-based technique that was unparallelled in the world; most people would not have had the ability to release any acupoints that had been blocked by this technique (Chapter 7).
How the Stranger in Black used the Single Finger of Positivity to prove that he was Duan Yanqing (Chapter 8):
- Struck at the Emperor Baoding with the index finger of his right hand.
- Stabbed at Baoding with the middle finger.
- Took a horizontal sweep at Baoding with the ring finger.
- Hooked at Baoding lightly with the little finger.
- Pushed at Baoding with the thumb; had the strongest measure of energy despite the apparent clumsiness of the thumb.
The energy from the Single Finger of Positivity could travel away from the practitioner as a sudden but silent gust of wind (Chapter 8).
A martial arts technique that was unique to the Duan Family of Dali alone; imparted only to sons instead of daughters, and to family members instead of outsiders, until the reign of Duan Zhixing (the 18th King of Dali, reigning from 1172 to 1200 A.D.) (Chapter 8). Graded according to 'classes' (pin3 ji2 品级) where the First Class (Di4 Yi1 Pin3 第一品) was considered the best (Chapter 10).
A martial arts technique that was admired by Wang Yuyan (Chapter 12).
